What do you say to a customer when she asks you to build a three- dome house? First you scratch your head once or twice, say yes I would be very happy to do this job, and then you call John Johnson.

I am a builder and contractor with 32 years of experience in all phases of construction. I have built some rather unique designs over the years and never had many serious problems figuring out how to build any particular structure, but I had never built a dome. I had done some research and had a basic knowledge of how this structure was to be built but knew from the start that this project would be a challenge. You can bet that I eagerly anticipated the arrival of the “Dome Expert” from Alabama.

This project was to be built from one new kit, and two 25 year old kits that had been in storage since the 1970’s. Not only were the instructions almost nonexistent, but many of the connectors were missing and about a third of the lumber was rotted and needed to be replaced.

John quickly established a good rapport with my crew and subcontractors and within a couple of days of his arrival John had inventoried the parts, made detailed lists of the components we needed to manufacture and began guiding us through the process of erecting domes. His experience and knowledge saved us countless false starts and under his direction and despite some serious delays because of bad weather, the job proceeded almost without a hitch. Without John’s direction this project would have taken weeks longer and as a result would have cost my customer thousands of dollars extra in unnecessary construction costs.

I would not hesitate to recommend John Johnson for any dome project. He was on time, easy to work with, didn’t leave until the job was complete, and has always been available for questions after his on site consulting was finished. (He also tells great jokes and hardly whines at all.)

My father often told me to beware of “experts” because they often aren’t. Well, John Johnson is. In my opinion whatever he is paid for his expertise is money well spent.

Sincerely,

James D. Hudson
